Stitch Fixings #3

Thank god for TMobile Tuesdays. Imagine my surprise when I see that they were giving out a $25 credit for Stitch Fix! It is totally worth it in my opinion because just the styling fee is $20 if you don’t get anything at all and considering how i’ve only bought items on the cheaper side, the entire $25 would then go towards whatever I purchase!!

Alrightyyy! Let’s start with those shoes. I was looking for some summer shoes that were not flats because I am getting sick of getting flats tan every single summer… lol. I forgot to mention that I wasn’t looking for high heeled shoes but that’s what they sent me. They were pretty uncomfortable to wear and I didn’t think they were super pretty so they were a no.

The image with my hand on my belly is mainly for the pants. They were kinda comfortable but they felt very much like sweats and I wasn’t really into that because I can probably get black sweats for cheaper elsewhere…Although… they don’t look very much like sweats in that picture. Maybe I should have given it more thought… hm…

So the black tank with the stripes were the only thing I kept because I liked it. It was pretty simple and it fit very well and as you all know, i’ve had a lot of trouble with getting clothes from Stitch Fix that fit well! Another plus was that it was only $9 after the credit! 🙂

Very last image includes two items that I received- the tank inside and the jacket. Let me just say that I was not very impressed with the tank top inside- I have nothing else to say about it besides I didn’t keep it. However!! I LOVED THE JACKET!! I forgot what it’s called and I really wish Stitch Fix kept a record online with what you received. So the reason they gave me a jacket was because I wanted a light jacket to wear in the summer for the subways and for the office whenever I get super cold. The jacket itself was super soft and pretty light but the only reason I couldn’t get it or refused to get it was the price- what’s new right?

Good thing is, i’m going to try and find that card they include in each box just to get the name of the jacket and then try to find something similar at Macy’s/ Jcpenney. Wish me luck!!!

I hope TMobile gives out another Stitch Fix reward on Tuesday. 🙂

8.6.17 July 2017

It’s only 4:50PM and I feel super tired. Mainly because of the delicious lunch I had today at Szechuan Mountain House, once I got home- I slept for two hours and feel like I need more.

Business first- I am pretty disappointed at myself for not writing the last two weeks. I have a few ideas of what to write but I just haven’t had the time to actually write. July has been a pretty busy month for me and my planner has been the most filled up i’ve ever seen it.

I started this post in July but I after July passed, I needed to change it up a bit since it wasn’t super relevant in my opinion. I feel like July of 2017 will be a month that is super important to me- even if I won’t necessarily remember what happened in the future. In my 23 years, I don’t think i’ve come out of my comfort zone and tried many new things.

After my breakup with JS, I felt really unhappy with myself and needed to learn how to be okay with being by myself. I joined a volleyball league by myself, which I am enjoying even though my team isn’t great- we are improving every week. I’ve been going out more, went to my first comedy show (for a coworker!), first open mic, drank the most i’ve ever did in two weeks. I still wish that we didn’t have to drink to socialize but i am also feeling more social and more willing to do things/ less afraid to try these things.

This blog isn’t really meant for me to rant about my private life, but I am happy where I am at the moment and thought it was an important thing to chronicle. Not necessarily for whoever is reading this, but for myself. However, I’ve got some more posts coming so keep an eye out for that!  ❤

I Hate Matcha Pt. 1

Yes, I hate Matcha but I love Green Tea!! I just really dislike that bitter matcha powder taste so any desserts or sweets with Matcha in it, I stay far away from. However, I had a bag of Matcha powder at home and my mom wanted me to finish the bag. The reason I have this bag of powder because my boyfriend at the time LOVES Matcha and I made him some Matcha cheesecake for his birthday. A year later, I’m left with a bag of matcha powder.Read More »

Wooly Adventures: Dumpling Kitties!

Now that i’m leaving for another job, I have mixed feelings-of course i’m happy to leave but i’m also super grateful for all the opportunities they’ve given me and how appreciated I felt there and i’m also going to miss everyone. It’s not really like school where I know after a certain period of time i’m definitely moving on, but this is more of an unexpected kind of change. Anyway, I wanted to give everyone a gift but I don’t have the time or the money for that so I got everyone Thank you cards. However, I am going to get a few people gifts because I felt like they’ve done a lot for me during my time there-my manager being one.

When I applied for my current job, I was interviewed by my manager. At one point, she ran out of questions and just asked me what my favorite animal was. I swear the answer I gave got me the job (she confirmed it!). Cats were the correct answer!! My manager loves cats. When my brother got me a set of kitty cat mugs, I sent her a picture cause I knew she would appreciate it. She sent a picture of her cat back. It only made sense to get her something cat related!

I knew I waned to crochet something so I decided on this:

Stitch Fixings #2~

19398892_10154651352566451_1798972886_n.jpg

After the first Stitch Fix shipment, I wanted to try it one more time and it finally came! I was super excited to see what I was getting and I thought that my stylist would be the same as the first time, but it wasn’t. I would assume they would try to keep the same stylist throughout someone’s Stitch Fix journey cause the stylist would grow to know your style personally, but I guess I was wrong. Or maybe my stylist just didn’t like me. LOL

Once again, I just really liked the packaging and how all the stylists are so great at organizing everything to look so neat!

This time, I didn’t take a picture of all the items I received. Instead, I took pictures of me wearing the items.

I actually really liked a few of these. The pants were awesome! They fit really well unlike the first pair I received and it would definitely be something I would wear. However, it was too expensive and I am pretty sure I can find something similar in Macys/JcPenneys/etc.

The white and blue shirt was too big. I feel like their clothing are just too big for me, although there are a few that fits pretty well, like the dark blue one right after, a large majority of the clothing I received don’t fit well. Which is why I was surprised when the next shirt I tried on, the dark blue one, fit super well! I really liked it and thought about buying it but again, the price just turned me off. I remember seeing something similar on Macy’s but it was white and i’m sure Macy’s would have something similar anyway so I returned that as well. The last top I got… I disliked a lot. At first, when I looked at the list of items that came with the box, I thought I would like the last top because it looked so soft and looked completely different than the actual item. The material was stiffer than I thought and it just wasn’t a great fit on me or a great cut in my opinion (I hope cut means the style of the top…) LOL

So far every time they sent me a box, I get a necklace. This time I got a choker and I liked it! It’s pretty simple and not too flashy. Additionally, it was affordable!! So I kept it. I just need to feel comfortable wearing it in general since I don’t normally wear jewelry. Maybe i’ll start at my new job!!

This will probably be my last time trying out Stitch Fix, everything was just too expensive and although I would like the items, I can’t bring myself to purchase them. Additionally, I feel like it’s hard for them to pinpoint my exact size, which makes it difficult to find clothes that fit well. It was fun though! I have some ideas of what I would look for now when I go shopping and who knows, maybe I will try again later on! 🙂

Pasta is Simple?

My friend told me that you can never mess up Pasta, it’s the easiest thing to make. I feel like I’d have to disagree. Anyone can make pasta, but it’s not easy to make it well. Maybe it’s just because i’m not a huge fan of pasta? I feel like most of the pastas I’ve eaten don’t have much taste and it’s all in the sauces but even with the sauce i’m not generally impressed. Someone should take me out to get some really good pasta. Actually… now that I think about it- Eataly has really good pasta! Someone should still take me out for some good pasta 😉

Anyway, I had a box of pasta laying around and I wanted to make something simple to not only eat for dinner that night but also to take to work for lunch. I thought, why not pasta if it’s so simple? The thing was, I didn’t have any of the sauces at hand and I was not about to buy sauces- because i’m cheap and I don’t want to spend money on things if I can just make an alternative at home. I googled simple pasta recipes and I settled on two different ones:

When I was looking for these recipes, I was looking for ones that were easy, with ingredients that I had on hand, and didn’t require making actual sauces cause I don’t have time for that. 19349180_10154633220736451_1555761521_o

I mainly followed the second recipe and took some steps from the first concerning pasta boiling and peas.  I replaced all meats with bacon in almost every recipe i’ve tried so far  because it’s the easiest meat to work with in my fridge LOL.

I think my pasta and peas came out great and very al dente! The problem started when I started cooking the garlic and pepper flakes (I used Korean pepper flakes because that’s all I have) in the oil. I was too busy taking pictures and admiring the smell that it burnt. I also wasn’t sure if I put enough oil since it didn’t seem like all the pasta was getting coated in the burnt garlic oil. I also probably kept it in the pot for too long trying to coat everything because the pasta started coming apart! D:19198427_10154633221156451_1486088712_n.jpg

Overall, the taste was good-sometimes i’d have a taste of burnt garlic but meh whatever, garlic is delicious. I think it came out decently and it tasted even better when I had it for lunch the next day- it might have been because I hadn’t eaten and it was already 3PM.

Will definitely try to make pasta again and perfect it! As I write this, I realized that I did forget a step in the recipe. I’m not sure if it’s major but I was supposed to put some sort of cooking alcohol in it and I didn’t… I would’ve put Asian cooking wine. I have no idea how that would’ve gone…

6.16.17 Boston Relaxation

Ah… Boston.

This past weekend I went to Boston to visit my brother and a few friends who were still studying there. I honestly had a great time and felt more relaxed than I have in a while. I also felt like I had a lot more planned to do in Boston than I normally do when I go visit. On Friday afternoon before my train, I had an interview and I left that feeling super happy and positive. I also stopped by the Pharmacy and I think the Pharm tech was flirting with me LOL.

I got to Boston pretty late on Friday night but I got to see one of my ex roommates and we stayed up talking and catching up- I really miss those days. I had lunch with my brother and then we did an escape room with my friends and some strangers. We got out with 10 minutes to spare! Afterwards, I did some sisterly things for him like buying him groceries. Haha.

The best takeaway from this trip to Boston I think was that I was able to get closer to a friend of 5ish years. We’ve never spent that much time together alone in the entire time we’ve known each other or even dinner together. We spent 5+ hours catching up- it was great. We ate out on the patio and the whole environment was very relaxing and made me feel super happy to be where I was right now in my life-although we talked about the bad parts of our lives right now, it wasn’t a sad vibe, and i’m ver grateful for that. I think just being in Boston also helped with because I didn’t have to think about other things that would put a damper on me trying to enjoy myself and being me (*cough* family *cough*)

I wish that I was able to see more of my friends- I was only there for one full day and I wasn’t able to see my other ex-roommate!

Soondubu Mask Day~

Everyone who knows me knows that I love Korean food. Especially when it comes to their stews *drools* ugh delish.

Cook Korean! by Robin Ha

I currently work at a free daily newspaper and our editorial team sometimes receive books to review and once they are done the books are up for grabs for the rest of the office. There was a Korean cookbook that stood out to me because it was written like a comic and who doesn’t love a comic?! Cook Korean! is a Korean cookbook in graphic novel format by Robin Ha. The artwork is beautiful and the Kimchi Jigae that I made one night on a whim based on her recipe was very simple to follow because the text instructions were simple with visuals to fill in the missing pieces. If you are ever interested in cooking Korean food, I would recommend this (but to be fair, i’ve only made two things from the book).

Not going to post the recipe here cause you should just get the book! 🙂 Read More »

6.08.17 Grand St.

The Lower East Side Ecology Center had a fishing happy hour and I decided to go partly because I’ve always wanted to fish and partly to support my friend who works there.

As I was heading towards the East River, I had to walk down Grand St., and it brought back soo many memories of my elementary school years when I lived in Chinatown.

The block that the Doughnut Plant is located on feels oddly different and the same at the same time. I’m pretty sure the Doughnut Plant had expanded and swallow the store that used to be next to them. That Bialy store is still there (i’m pretty happy that they are still around!). I remember getting a Bialy in class (not sure why we were having Bialys) and just loving it-partly because I just love bread in general. I knew I picked one that had some flavor in it but I don’t remember if I could taste it or if I couldn’t taste it. Additionally, I remember going on a class trip to a pickle place to learn all about pickles! They weren’t located in the place I originally remember them being-if it’s the same guys, then I think they’ve expanded and now have a much bigger storefront but if it’s not the same guys that’s a shame.

Walking even further down Grand St. towards the East River, I passed by the Henry Street Settlement. It used to be one of those places where our school took us to often because it was so close and probably cheap (or maybe not often-my memory’s not that great). It was in there, climbing the steps of the place that my very first boyfriend (he didn’t become my boyfriend until Middle school but I had such a huge crush on him) told me to spell ICUP and taught me that childish joke. Ahh, such fond memories… lol

Past that was the first building that my elementary was in-our school shared that building with another public school and moved to another building around middle school. Those very iconic blue windows were what I’ve always sorta associated with that building and passing by it made me tear up because I just thought about how it looks pretty much the same-it still had the same blue windows. I thought about how every morning, I would pretend to go get breakfast and once I knew my family left, i’d sneak back into the auditorium to hang with my friends. All these memories just came flooding back, a time where everything seemed so simple and carefree and I was soo stupid that I thought I knew everything.

I thought of the park in Middle School where I sat with two of my friends after school. We shared fried rice together and just talked about life- general girl talk. I couldn’t remember which park it was but I knew it was one of the parks near the school.

It felt like such a long time ago-some of these memories I sort of forgot about- like the Bialys or the Pickle guys. There were still so many things that were different though, so many apartment buildings and gates that weren’t there in the past.

This experience was literally a walk down memory lane and I loved it but it did make me feel sad because of how different things have changed

Random memory while writing this:
I remember walking to school on Grand St. when I was in elementary school with my grandfather. I was young and very active so I would normally walk ahead or rather, run ahead. There was a road blocked and once day a police officer came up to me and ask me if I was alone, I said my grandfather is with me. The officer proceeded to scold my grandfather for letting me walk ahead but he obviously didn’t understand and just nodded. Thinking back it was funny but I also feel bad cause I don’t want him to get scolded.

Stitch Fixings~

Heyy!

Part of the goal of this summer project is to try to get out of my comfort zone as well. This includes trying new pieces of clothing that I would probably never wear, or just clothes that I should wear more often (ie., dresses, heels, etc.)

19114360_10154615444001451_370392453_n

My current fashion style is summed up perfectly with hoodies and jeans. I have a few dresses that I rarely wear and I have a few button ups but it never feels right to wear them (or I just don’t know how to wear it so I don’t look like it’s eating me). So, I decided to try StitchFix. It’s basically a service that sends you five items to try and if you can return as many items as you want and buy only whichever ones you like.

My first fix came and just look at how nice that packaging is! I didn’t want to even touch it because of how neat everything was. I also really like that they added a list of what clothing they’ve included and give you options as to how you could wear it with other types of clothing. Very helpful, especially when I go shopping cause now i’ll kind of have an idea of what to look for.

I received a dress, two shirts, a pair of pants, and a necklace. The picture is horrible because I didn’t want to take a picture of every single piece and most of the items are just one color so I don’t think it really mattered how I took a picture but we’ll see when I get my next fix.18834593_10154605548096451_432407356_n

My favorite was the dress! It was soo comfy and soft but it did feel a bit too big and baggy-when i leaned over, it does def give people a chance to look down my dress. The white/plaid shirt didn’t fit me well, especially when it came to the chest area. I’m not sure I like the design in general (I told the stylist I liked plaid but this is not the plaid i like). There was another blue shirt that fit perfectly on me and friends said it was cute but I didn’t love it. I’m do want to try new items but this doesn’t make me want to wear it if I bought it and considering these items are $38-$48 each- I better be wearing them. I really liked the pants-I have a pair of jeans in the same color! The waist fit perfectly but everything else didn’t! So it just looked super baggy and loose and definitely getting returned. The necklace was nice too, i like how simple it was but I felt like it was too long-maybe if it was long enough to go around my head twice I would have considered keeping it.

I’m excited to see what the next set of 5 items i’m getting. I basically returned all the items I got this time cause they didn’t fit me at basically. I returned every single item (definitely not folded as nicely as it got to me) that I got this time but it’s okay, the more the stylist knows what I like- the easier it probably will be to get things I will decide to keep!

Fingers crossed! Updates to follow! I am probably only going to do it twice, considering how much each piece of clothing did cost. I’m sure it would be an interesting experience though.
